Faith & Health Care 2009
On Sunday 29th November 2009 we were delighted to welcome Doctors John Goodrich (GP working as a locum, presently based in Cullybackey & Ahoghill) Olive Buckley (GP working in Scotch Quarter, Carrickfergus) Steven McCurdy (GP working in Cloghmills) along with Diane Boal, a mid-wife working at the RVH to take part in our 'Faith & Health Care' Evening. After some brief introductions, the panel chatted about the joys and also the demands and challenges of working in the field of health care.
They shared something of their journey in becoming and being followers of Jesus and addressed a series of questions, some not so serious, such as ‘Jedward are bad for the nation’s health,’ do you agree or disagree? others much more challenging, eg. 'what can the church do to change teenage attitudes to sex and to help young women find alternatives to abortion and support those who choose to continue with a pregnancy rather than abort?;' 'If you could find a cure for anything for which there is not presently a known cure what would it be?' and 'Benny Hinn reputedly said, ‘The Bible declares if the Word of God is in our life, there will be health, there will be healing – divine health and divine healing. There will be no sickness for the saint of God.’ How might you help someone who thinks he or she is a real Christian but is unsettled by a statement like this?'
We are indebted to everyone on the panel for the honest, gracious, thoughtful and challenging way in which they shared with us on Sunday Evening. Where you there? Did you enjoy it? We'd love to hear from you! Contact Steve Milburn with any feedback.
